Component 5: Wind energy promotion

Despite of all public debates on climate change, many people, and in particular those who live in cities and town quite "remoted" from energy production, have still the feeling electricity is "produced in the socket": Although our everyday life is essentially based on energy consumption, they prefer not to be confronted with energy production. While (as applies for most of the campaigns) pro-wind-energy ARGUMENTS address mainly those who have already a positive attitude to the topic, it is much more difficult (and has seldom worked so far) to address people who are wind energy sceptics or ambiguous to it.

Of course they have their reasons - there are conflicts of interest related to wind turbines -, but protests against wind farms ignore the context, i.e. the fact that energy production is essential for our everyday life. Where arguments do not reach people, a more emotive approach, i.e. to address these people on the "emotional level" might work: In comp 5 we will try to link wind energy to positive symbols and events might still work. In this respect, we plan to develop demonstrators and events that connotate wind energy more positively and make this energy production more tangible. Only as a second step (pt. 3) we plan to display, how much our future depends on ecological energy production. The following activities shall enable this:
  1. Development and installation of technical demonstrators in combination with positive symbols in public site of cities/towns, i.e. as an address to "the urban citizen". Here, the joint international competences of the project team will be merged to develop a concept for such demonstrators which will be implemented in 3 towns/cities. To make this local implementations internationally applicable and useful, the demonstrators themselves and the related implementation process (planning, implementation, technical details) will be thoroughly documented in manuals and distributed (see |comp 2 >).

  2. More Details about the demonstrator project |WindMove Energy Tunnel >

  3. Development and exemplary implementation of a wind farm illumination addressing a wide public. Visitors will have the opportunity to get actively involved via an interactive stage where information on wind energy are combined with entertainment. The event will have model character and, thus, be documented carefully to enable follow-up events of this kind in other partner regions or even other countries.

  4. Oriented to the info-point concept developed by the City of Pori (partner of WEBSR1), wind energy information points shall be established in 3 partner cities, to link 1 and 2 to wind energy education work.
