Partner characterization
The Leontief Center, International Centre for Social and Economic Research was set up in 1991 at the initiative of Anatoly Sobchak, the Mayor of St. Petersburg, and Wassily Leontief, winner of the Nobel Prize for Economics. The Leontief Centre is an independent and financially self-supporting research institute. It has a permanent staff of 63 and calls upon 140 contractual consultants to work on specific projects.
The Leontief Centre’s main fields of activity are:- research into economic and social problems arising in the transitional economy;
- provision of consulting services to the Russian Government and regional authorities with regard to development of research-based programs, proposals for legislative acts, and effective mechanisms of strategic planning;
- participation in implementation of international technical and financial aid programs run by the World bank, USAID, and the European Union;
- a wide range of services to Russian and foreign companies, including market research, assistance in developing business plans, financial analysis of projects, and co-operation in finding partners and investors;
- organization of academic conferences, practical seminars, and exhibitions;
- social planning; organization of PR campaigns;
- publishing;
- information technologies, telecommunications, geo-informational systems.
PARTNERS & CLIENTS: In the twelve years of its existence, the Leontief Centre has built up wide network of clients and partners including Russian and foreign governmental and non-governmental organizations, research centres, financial and consulting companies, and international organizations. The partnership network of the Leontief Centre encompasses 50 countries, 150 cities of the Russian Federation, 80 international and more than 300 Russian organizations.
RESEARCH & STUDIES:The Leontief Centre has completed over 500 research and consulting projects. It conducts analytical research and develops practical recommendations primarily in the following key subject areas:- Regional Economy

CONFERENCES & SEMINARS:The Leontief Centre has held over 110 conferences and workshops. The Leontief Centre has always focused on disseminating its research findings, contributing to public-policy discourse with its conferences, meetings, workshops and forums. We give a very high priority to this line of work. Since early 199l, the Leontief Centre has hosted more than 100 conferences and workshops devoted to various aspects of Russia economic reform. In memory of Wassily Leontief, an eminent scholar and the Centre's co-founder, the Leontief Centre has been holding annual Leontief Readings titled The Russian Economy: Current Reform Issues in conjunction with Carnegie Moscow Centre since 2000.
PUBLICATIONS: The Leontief Centre has carried out about 50 publishing projects, and authored 900 publications in periodicals, monographs and journals. The Leontief Centre functions as an independent analyst, committed to publishing its research findings to the attention of decision makers and scholars, for the information of the public and international community. The articles written by the Centre's experts are well familiar to the readers of the some leading Russian and international economic journals, including Voprosy Ekonomiki, Expert North-West, Economic, Politics, Investment, Russian Economic Policy Review, Springer, and others.
